Friedman Named Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations at UB

Jay Friedman has been named associate vice president for alumni relations at UB.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jay R. Friedman of Amherst has been named associate vice president for alumni relations at the University at Buffalo.

Friedman, a UB alumnus who earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication in 1986 and a master's in education in 2000, served as interim director of the alumni office from January through May 2009.

As associate vice president for alumni relations, Friedman is responsible for UB's alumni programs and activities, providing creative leadership and overall managerial direction to the Office of Alumni Relations and the UB Alumni Association. His primary role is to build relationships that result in volunteer service and philanthropic support for the campus and will initiate activities that maximize alumni outreach and engagement through alumni association communications, programs and services. He oversees a staff of 12 and is the primary liaison for the UB Alumni Association board of directors, which comprises 43 alumni from around the country.

Prior to joining the alumni office, Friedman worked for nearly 23 years in campus catering and the Office of Special Events at UB.

"With 20-plus years of experience working at UB and his involvement with the alumni association board of directors for nearly 20 years, Jay has the qualifications, enthusiasm and passion for UB that this position requires.
