The University at Buffalo will kick off an exhibition of the works of one of the world's most iconic and idiosyncratic literary figures, James Joyce, at a private opening reception to be held at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, June 13, 2009) in UB's Anderson Gallery, One Martha Jackson Place, off Englewood Avenue, between Main Street and Kenmore Avenue in Buffalo.

This extensive exhibition of priceless manuscripts, photographs, paintings and personal memorabilia of the 20th century's most influential writer illuminate the historical and literary context in which he worked and mark Buffalo as a world literary site.

The curators and many Joyce scholars from around the world will be present to answer reporters' questions and to describe and discuss items of interest and the stories attached to them.

The exhibition's opening coincides with "Eire on the Erie," the 2009 North American James Joyce Conference that is attracting literary scholars from throughout the world to Buffalo to celebrate Joyce's fascinating life and work. UB is home to the largest and most prestigious James Joyce Collection in the world.

The event will help tell Western New Yorkers how unique and priceless the James Joyce Collection at UB is and why it is famous throughout the world.
