The University at Buffalo and the New York Power Authority will announce a major, multi-million-dollar project to construct a major, solar-energy array to provide power to the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

It will be the largest solar array installation on any campus in New York State and one of the largest in the U.S.

The news conference will be held at 11:15 a.m. today (Thursday, May 7, 2009) in the Center for Tomorrow on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

UB President John B. Simpson and NYPA President Richard M. Kessel will make the announcement.

The solar energy project will advance the UB 2020 strategic plan's focus on improving UB's campuses, in part, by improving their environmental sustainability. The project will allow UB to take a significant step toward going climate neutral, the goal of the Presidents Climate Commitment, which President Simpson signed in 2007.
