BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fall 2008 Lecture Series sponsored by the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning will open on Sept. 26 with a talk by architectural historian Jack Quinan, Ph.D., SUNY Distinguished Service Professor of art history at UB.

Quinan, an adjunct professor of architecture at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Ariz., is an internationally recognized scholar, author and lecturer whose research interests range from the arts and crafts movement and architect Frank Lloyd Wright to American architecture of the Federal period and of utopian communities.

His talk, which will address the relationship between Wright and his principle patron and supporter, Darwin D. Martin of Buffalo, will take place at 7 p.m. in 301 Crosby Hall on the UB South (Main Street) Campus. It will be free, open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

The lecture is sponsored by the UB Special Collections, repository of the Darwin D. Martin Collection, which Quinan employed heavily when researching his critically acclaimed 2004 book, "Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House: Architecture as Portraiture" (Princeton Architectural Press), and the architectural classic, "Frank Lloyd Wright's Larkin Building: Myth and Fact" (2006, University of Chicago Press).

Quinan is the founder of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, dedicated to the preservation of Wright's extant work and is the curator of Wright's Darwin D. Martin House, a spectacular articulation of Wright's prairie style, which currently is undergoing a $23 million restoration.
