BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present Evidence, A Dance Company at 8 p.m. on March 23 in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. The company will also be in residence March 5-23.

Ronald K. Brown makes dance stories in response to the human condition and the current cultural climate. Praised as "one of the most profound choreographers of his modern dance generation" by The New York Times, Evidence, A Dance Company blends African, modern, ballet and hip-hop dance styles to tell stories about what is important about the human experience.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary in 2007, Evidence's focus on the seamless fusion of traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word, provides a unique view of human struggles, tragedies and triumphs. Ronald K. Brown's use of history, tradition and dance forms from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, combined with modern and urban dance, says through the body what cannot be said in words.

Brown's award-winning, New York-based company now tours to more than 15 cities in the United States each year and has traveled to Cuba, Brazil, England, France, Greece, Hungary and Segal, to perform, teach master classes and conduct lecture demonstrations for young people.

The Center for the Arts will host Evidence for a month-long residency March 5-23. In addition to providing 16 master classes for UB dance students, the company will give lecture demonstrations and master classes in several Buffalo schools including: Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, Elmwood Village Charter School, Charter School of Applied Technology, Tapestry Charter School and Buffalo School #45. The activities are provided at no cost to the schools as part of the center's community outreach initiatives.

As Western New York's premier presenter of dance, the Center for the Arts places great emphasis on developing dance in our community as well as introducing children to dance. Since 1997 the Center has conducted more than a dozen professional dance outreach projects to provide arts education for more than 23,000 students at schools primarily in the City of Buffalo and Niagara Falls. This is a major commitment by the Center, both financially and in terms of personnel, but it is part of a focused, continuous effort to enhance the education of Western New York students. Public school students receive less access to dance than any other professional performing art.

The Center strives to nurture interest, as well as develop future audiences for this dynamic, athletic, and beautiful method of expression.
