BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present "Explore the Arts," its theatrical arts summer program for children entering grades 5-8. The program will be held from July 11-15 in the Center for the Arts. Registration and fee are required.

"Explore the Arts" is a theatrical arts summer program for children in grades 5-8 taught by a combination of University at Buffalo professional staff, faculty and area professionals. The one-week session during the summer aims to develop technical and performance skills in a nurturing and integrated environment where children can participate in a shared creative experience, ultimately expanding the participants' knowledge of and interest in the arts. Instruction will be at a level appropriate for participants.

The program will consist of daily workshops covering instruction on both technical theater and performance, including topics like scenery design and construction, creative lighting and sound operation, costume design, basic acting and dramatic movement.

The "Explore the Arts" program will take place in the Center for the Arts on the University at Buffalo's North (Amherst) Campus. The Center for the Arts is home to several professional performance spaces, equipped with state-of-the-art theatrical equipment and fully functioning scene and costume shops.

The workshops are process-oriented and do not culminate in a dramatic production. Parents will be invited to a reception on the final day of the program.

Cost of the program is $275, which includes lunch and snacks. The deadline for registration is June 24. For more information, call (716) 645-6754 ext. 1388 or visit http://www.ubcfa.org.
