School of Management to Hold 50th Annual Institute on Taxation

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for Executive Development in the University at Buffalo School of Management will hold its 50th annual Institute on Taxation from 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, and from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the Adam's Mark Hotel.

Held in cooperation with the Buffalo chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Erie Institute of Law, the annual seminar reviews and clarifies provisions and patterns of federal tax laws.

This year's topics will include state and federal tax updates, Empire Zones, C-Corps, Subchapter S-Corps, partnership and LLC planning, bankruptcy, "1031" exchanges, estate and gift tax updates, investment planning and related tax issues, choosing the right retirement plan for your client, criminal tax audits investigations, alternative minimum tax, tax shelter updates and tax-exempt organization issues.

Daniel B. Walsh, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon on Dec. 12. He is responsible for The Business Council's overall efforts to improve the business climate in New York State. Prior to joining the organization in 1987, Walsh served in the State Assembly for 15 years, including eight years as majority leader.

Two 50-year participants of the Institute on Taxation will be recognized at the event: Harold Fein, retired practitioner, and George Armitage, semi-retired partner, Swiantek, Falbo & Moscato (formerly Armitage, Swiantek & Falbo).

The Institute on Taxation satisfies requirements for Professional Achievement in Continuing Education (PACE) credit and is authorized by the State Board of Accountancy to be a sponsor of continuing-education programs for New York State certified public accountants, public accountants and enrolled agents under Section 70.6 of the Commissioner's Regulations. Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credits also are offered. Participants attending the entire event will earn 12 CPE credits, and/or 12 hours of CLE credits.
