BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Nine students in the Department of English in the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences received departmental honors during the Spring 2003 semester.

They are:

o Todd Balazic of Bigfork, Mont., a Cook, Hammond, Logan Creative Writing Prize

o Sara Center of East Amherst, the Outstanding Senior Award for the College of Arts and Sciences

o Aaron Lowinger of Buffalo, the Axlerod Memorial Award for poetry

o Samantha Maziarz of North Tonawanda, a Cook, Hammond, Logan Creative Writing Prize

o Emily McClellan of Niagara Falls, the Scribblers Prize for the best piece of creative writing by an undergraduate woman

o Leah McCormack of Accord, honorable mention for the Scribblers Prize

o Sara Paulson of Ithaca, the Houpt Prize for excellence and proficiency in the work of the Department of English

o Peter Ramos of Ellicott City, Md., a Cook, Hammond, Logan Creative Writing Prize

o Karen Yacobucci of Rochester, honorable mention for the Axlerod Award
