BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Barbara J. Rooney of Williamsville, assistant director in the Office of Admissions at the University at Buffalo, received the Outstanding Service Award from the university's Professional Staff Senate (PSS) at its annual awards luncheon on May 15.

The Outstanding Service Award, presented by the PSS -- the governance body for UB's professional staff -- recognizes both university and community service.

Rooney, a member of the UB professional staff since 1990, is responsible for overseeing and managing nearly 20,000 freshman and transfer applications to the university annually and ensuring their timely coordination for review.

Rooney is a member of the university's Intercollegiate Athletics Board, which is the primary oversight body for intercollegiate athletics.

She also is active in the Educational Advisory Board at Sts. Peter and Paul School in Williamsville and its Home School Association, and serves as treasurer for a local scouting group.

A monthly blood donor for the American Red Cross, Rooney also is member of the Linda Yalem Memorial Run planning committee and helps to register participants and coordinate student volunteers on race day.
