BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A national benchmarking report has cited the Career Resource Center in the University at Buffalo School of Management as one of the five best business-school career offices nationwide in terms of student satisfaction.

Produced by Educational Benchmarking Inc. (EBI), the report was based on surveys of 20,000 MBA students over a three-year period.

The UB School of Management career office -- as well as business-school career offices at Indiana University, Michigan State University, University of North Carolina and Penn State University -- was cited by the report for having the highest levels of student satisfaction among 385 U.S. business schools.

The five business-school career offices will be featured in a "best practices" case study being published by EBI and the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. The study will be distributed to business schools across the country.

According to Cynthia Shore, assistant dean and director of the School of Management's Career Resource Center, the case study will focus on the center's success in creating innovative student-development and corporate-outreach programs; its strategies for developing relationships with corporate recruiters, students, faculty and alumni, and its self-assessment and office-management practices.

"A key component of the study will be how the center has supported and influenced the overall strategy of the School of Management as it relates to student recruitment, curriculum development and customer service," Shore says.

Under Shore, the Career Resource Center has helped to increase the average starting salaries of UB's MBA graduates 32 percent over the past three years. The center has twice received an award of excellence from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, most recently in 2000 for its Career Advantage Interview Competition. It also has earned three awards of excellence from the State University of New York Career Development Organization (SUNYCDO).

In addition, the center's programs have helped the School of Management earn a place among Business Week magazine's "best business schools," a ranking that is based on satisfaction surveys of MBA graduates and corporate recruiters.

"The ingenuity of our Career Resource Center staff has benefited our students in very tangible ways and continues to positively impact the School of Management's national reputation," says Lewis Mandell, dean of the School of Management. "We're proud that their work will be a benchmark for other business schools across the country."
