BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The academic catalog of the University at Buffalo Law School is the recipient of a prestigious silver award from the internationally renowned University and College Designers Association (UCDA). UCDA is a professional organization committed to promoting excellence in visual communications for educational institutions. Members include designers and educators.
The UCDA Awards Competition and Show selects and exhibits the best in contemporary printed and electronic communications for educational institutions.
For the 2000 competition, 1300 entries were received. Only seven institutions received gold awards; 16 (including UB Law) received silver; and 129 received "excellence" awards.
The catalog's graphic designer, Rebecca Farnham, of the UB Creative Services Office, said, "This is a tough show to win anything in, much less a silver."
Ilene Fleischmann, the Law School's associate dean for alumni and communications, and a member of the Law School's catalog team, said the high quality of the catalog was made possible in part by a grant from the UB Law Alumni Association. "Our alumni have taken a keen interest in marketing the Law School, to attract the strongest applicants," she said.
In addition to Farnham and Fleischmann, other members of the Law School's catalog team are Peter Pitegoff, vice dean for academic affairs, and Jack Cox, associate dean for admissions and financial aid.
One other piece from the UB Creative Services Office was cited by the UCDA: A feature spread in UB Today received an "excellence" award.
