BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A performance by comedian Elayne Boosler, a football game between the UB Bulls and Morgan State University and a carnival and bonfire on the shore of Lake LaSalle will highlight the University at Buffalo Family and Homecoming Weekend, to be held Oct. 9-11.

Other weekend events will include a performance by the Cassatt String Quartet, men's and women's soccer games and a series of educational presentations for students and their families.

The football game at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 will be preceded by an alumni pre-game party, featuring lunch and entertainment, at 11 a.m. at the UB Stadium south-gate entrance. Tickets for the party, sponsored by the UB Alumni Association, will be $10 (advance purchase) and $15 (at the door) for adults; $8 for UB students; and $5 for children under 12.

Other pre-game activities will include a student pizza-tasting contest, with pizza provided by local vendors.

Half-time events at the game will include the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen by UB President William R. Greiner, a UB clubs parade and a performance by the renowned Morgan State Marching Band.

The comedy show featuring Boosler and special guest Anthony Clark will begin at 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Alumni Arena on the North (Amherst) Campus. The doors will open at 7 p.m. All seating will be general admission.

Boosler, known for her feisty manner and thoughtful political material, is one of the most popular touring comedians and has performed at the White House for President Clinton and Congress, and in London at the 75th anniversary of the Royal Command Performance.

She also has written and starred in seven comedy specials for cable television and has appeared on "Comic Relief," "The Tonight Show," "Late Night with David Letterman," "Larry King Live," "The Today Show," "Good Morning America" and the "Arsenio Hall Show." She also has made guest star appearance on several popular sitcoms.

Special guest Clark, of the television series "Soul Man" and "Boston Common," is known for his honest, blue-collar brand of humor. He also has appeared on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," "Ellen" and "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Tickets, which are $15 in advance and $16 at the door, are available through all Ticketmaster locations (852-5000), in Room 221 of the Student Union on the North Campus (645-2353) and at the Center for the Arts Box Office (645-ARTS).
