BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "Chemical Mixtures in Environmental Health" will be the focus of the third Buffalo Environmental Health Sciences Conference, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on April 20 in the Center for Tomorrow on the University at Buffalo (North) Amherst Campus.

The interdisciplinary conference will be co-sponsored by the Environmental Health Sciences Graduate Group, Toxicology Research Center and Environment and Society Institute, all at UB, and the Lake Ontario Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.

The conference will provide opportunities for scientists, faculty members and undergraduate and graduate students from the Great Lakes Region to share research findings and identify common problems.

The focus of the program will be on studies that have evaluated the health effects of chemical mixtures and approaches used for the analysis and interpretation of data resulting from exposure to chemical mixtures.

Philip M. Cook, Ph.D., and Stephen Nesnow, Ph.D., from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will present sessions on "Lake Trout Early Life Stage Survival in Lake Ontario: Putting Toxicity Hazards into an Ecoepidemiological Perspective" and "Lung Tumorigenic Interactions in Strain A/J Mice of Five Environmental Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons," respectively.

Peter Gessner, Ph.D., UB professor of pharmacology and toxicology, will speak on "Analysis and Interpretation of Data Resulting from Exposure to Chemical Mixtures" and William R. Greco, Ph.D., UB research professor of biomathematics at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, will talk about "Synergy Viewed from a Response Surface Perspective."

Registration is $20 per person and $5 for students.
