BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo chapter of the National Stuttering Project (NSP) and the University at Buffalo Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic will address speaking experiences of those who stutter in a workshop to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, in 280 Park Hall on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

The workshop, entitled "Successful Stuttering: It's Time to Live," is geared toward adults and teens who stutter, and speech-language pathologists.

Stuttering, an involuntary disruption of speech, affects approximately 1 percent of the U.S. population.

The workshop will explore attitudes about stuttering, as well as dealing with it in positive ways. It will include a session on how to talk with other people about stuttering and an "open-mike" session in which all participants will have the opportunity to speak in front of the group.

The program will feature Russ Hicks from Texas Instruments in Dallas, recipient of many speaking awards and a long-time member of NSP.

The fee for the workshop is $35 for NSP members, $40 for non-members and $10 for students. There is an additional $5 fee to pay at the door.
