BUFFALO, N.Y. -- New telecommunications technology to improve its broadcast sound quality in electronic feeds to National Public Radio and other radio syndicators will be implemented by WBFO 88.7 FM, the NPR affiliate operated by the University at Buffalo, with the support of a $5,000 grant from The Buffalo Foundation.

Integrated Services Digital Network technology (ISDN) will allow the station to provide high-quality live broadcasts from non-studio locations, such as concert and lecture halls, and improved digital quality transmissions of community news events to syndicators like NPR, the British Broadcasting Co., and the Canadian Broadcasting Co. WBFO's current system is limited to analog telephone transmission, whereas the ISDN system will be digitized.

"We're thrilled that The Buffalo Foundation recognizes the value of WBFO as a community service," said Jennifer Roth, the station's general manager. "Its grant will make it possible for us to have an even more vital presence in the community and to better serve our listeners."

The project also will be funded by the Don Davis Auto World Fund for WBFO.

The Buffalo Foundation is a community foundation dedicated to serving the charitable needs of Western New York and fulfilling the charitable wishes of its donors.
