Members of UB Public Safety Honored By, Graduate From SUNY Training Academy

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- One member of the University at Buffalo Department of Public Safety was honored and another graduated during the 16th graduation session of the State University of New York (SUNY) Public Safety Training Academy held last month at the state police academy in Albany.

Dan Jay, an inspector with UB public safety, received the Director's Award for Excellence in Training Instruction.

Jay, an instructor with the academy staff since 1986, teaches homicide and death investigation, rules of evidence and physical evidence.

A native of Tonawanda, he attended Canisius College before joining UB public safety in 1974. He is a resident of Orchard Park.

Graduating during the ceremony was Officer Dean L. Swoger, who joined the UB department this summer. He attended Jamestown Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport.

A native of Ripley, he was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987-91 and served in the Persian Gulf campaign.

He is a resident of Cheektowaga.
