BUFFALO, N.Y. - Two new concentrations have been added to the undergraduate business program in the University at Buffalo School of Management.

Beginning next fall, concentrations in internal auditing and international business will be offered as part of UB's bachelor of science degree in business administration. Concentrations in accounting, financial analysis, human-resources management, marketing and management-information systems also are offered by the UB management school.

"The new concentrations give students the opportunity to further specialize in areas of career interest," said Arlene Bergwall, assistant dean for academic programs administration at the management school. "Advances in information technology and the expanding global marketplace have created new career paths for students who enroll in these curriculums."

The internal auditing concentration is designed as a senior-year option for accounting students whose career interests lie in the corporate, industry or governmental accounting fields, rather than public practice. It is one of only 30 curriculums worldwide endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors, a designation that will give UB graduates a competitive advantage in the job market, according to program coordinator Alex Ampadu, assistant professor of accounting.

"The internal-auditing program includes not only the technical aspects of internal auditing, but also essential background and professional issues needed to prepare students for successful careers in business," said Ampadu. "It will offer internships within internal-auditing departments of area companies and occasional visits from internal-auditing professionals who will share their experiences in selected areas."

The international-business concentration will require students to complete geography courses in international business, world commerce and international culture, and two semesters of a foreign language, in addition to courses in general business. It is

designed to prepare students for management positions within an increasingly international business environment.

Established in 1927, UB's undergraduate business program is consistently rated among the best nationwide by U.S. News and World Report and the Gourman Report in their rankings of the top colleges and universities in the United States.
