Moore, Sawner Appointed to Top Positions in Office of President William R. Greiner

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Muriel A. Moore has been appointed deputy to the president and Kathryn A. Sawner has been named executive assistant to the president by University at Buffalo President William R. Greiner. They previously served as assistants to the president.

Moore will serve as the president's chief staff and liaison officer with university officers, governance groups and a broad range of community groups. She also will be in charge of Greiner's calendar. Sawner will be the chief business and operations officer for the president's office.

Moore joined UB's administrative staff in 1974 as assistant director of the University Learning Center and in 1981 was named director of the center, a post she held for three years. From 1984-87, she served as director of UB's Educational Opportunity Center.

In 1987, Moore was appointed associate vice provost for special programs, with responsibility for the supervision and management of 25 multicultural special programs and their personnel. She held that post until 1990, when she was appointed a staff associate in the Office of the President and later was named an assistant to the president.

A graduate of Richmond College of City University of New York, Moore holds a master's degree in education and doctorate in educational organization, administration and policy from UB.

She is a resident of Buffalo.

Sawner has served in various administrative capacities at UB since joining the staff of the Department of Physical Therapy in 1968 as coordinator of clinical education. In 1972 she was named director of continuing education for the UB School of Health Related Professions. She returned to the Department of Physical Therapy in 1974 as executive officer and subsequently was named associate chair. In 1980 Sawner was named assistant dean of the School of Health Related Professions.

She has been a staff associate in the Office of the President since 1986 and an assistant to the president since 1990. Sawner is a resident of East Amherst.
