New UB graduate students

Congratulations and welcome to the University at Buffalo (UB). We are thrilled that you have chosen UB and look forward to seeing you on campus. Although you have successfully completed the admissions process, since you received formal admission to your program you make be asking yourself "What Now?"

As a new student, you may find the following resources helpful. You can also contact us or contact your department for more assistance.

Getting started

Welcome and Information Fair for Incoming Graduate Students

The Graduate School hosts a Welcome and Information Fair for incoming graduate students every August, giving incoming graduate students a warm welcome to the UB community and the Buffalo area. This special event features presentations that focus on important graduate student topics. Incoming graduate students also have the opportunity to informally speak with representatives from many key UB organizations and services offices.

Health requirements and student medical insurance

Before coming to campus, make sure that you have reviewed and fulfilled the Immunization and Health Form Requirement. If you need personal medical insurance, UB offers Student Medical Insurance services.

Campus computing and technology

All new students need a UBITname and Password for access to UB’s learning technologies. Once you have them set up, visit MyUB (the UB web portal), and iConnect@UB for information on services and software. You can view the Information Technology Orientation for more information.

Student life

Visit Student Life to learn about student activities. UB also has information about on-campus housing, off-campus housing, campus parking and transportation, and the Buffalo-Niagara region. The Graduate Student Association can help you get involved with campus life. There are also many international clubs at UB.

Policies & procedures

Please review the Graduate School Policies & Procedures Manual, which contains information about admissions, registration, grading, student records, degree requirements and more.
